Conditions for Research Fellowship
 

1. Purpose

The research fellowship is aimed at individuals in training who have an interest in transplantation.

2. Eligibility

Applicants must be members of the British Transplantation Society or have completed and submitted an application form to join the society.

3. Period of Support

Fellowships will normally be held for one year with the start date being within 6 months of the date of the award.

4. Financial Provision

Fellowship provides for a salary for the research fellow, normally within the NHS clinical salary scales by means of a fixed term contract of employment arranged with the host centre. The fellowship is available up to a total of £40,000.

5. Location

The post must be held in the United Kingdom, although need not to be restricted to an academic transplant unit. Applicants are expected to make their own arrangements for acceptance in the host centre. The Society is unable to provide assistance with any removal expenses incurred by fellows on taking up the award.

6. Subject of Research

The Subject of the research should be within the field of transplantation, either clinical or laboratory.

7. Conditions for Applications

Applications for fellowships are made on the understanding that the host centre, the supervisor and the applicant agree to accept the regulations and conditions relating to the scheme and any amendments issued during the course of the award. The Society reserves the right to introduce new terms and conditions during the period of the grant.

8. Application form

The application form consists of 4 parts, Part A to be completed by the applicant, Part B to be completed by the applicant's head of department, Part C to be completed by the applicant's proposed supervisor and head of department and Part D to be completed by the authorising administrative officer of the host centre.

9. Nominated Referees

External referees will be asked to review applications according to set criteria including:

Ability and background of the applicant
Importance of the research question to transplantation
Originality of research
Appropriateness of the study design
Appropriateness of the supervisor for training and development

10. Notification of outcome

Applications will be reviews by a special research board of the Society. All applicants will be notified of the outcome.
