Keith Rigg Surgeon
I am a consultant transplant surgeon who has worked in Nottingham since 1992 and before that I trained in Newcastle upon Tyne. I specialize in kidney transplants, but became a transplant surgeon by accident. From my early days at medical school I had always wanted to be a surgeon. I took two years out of my surgical training to do some research and was asked if I wanted to help out on the transplant rota during that time, and the rest is history!

What is special about transplantation? For me it is the opportunity to see the transformation a successful transplant can make to a patient, but also to be involved with that patient over many years. I enjoy working within a team of like-minded professionals and there are always new clinical, scientific and ethical challenges to work through together.

Over the last five years I have also had the opportunity and privilege to be more involved at a national level. I have served the British Transplantation Society in various roles, and am currently President; and am also a non executive Authority member of the Human Tissue Authority.

It is an exciting and challenging time to be involved in transplantation and I'm glad to be there.
